In The Guise Of A Friend Poem by Mohammad Younus

In The Guise Of A Friend

In the guise of a friend,
Satan whispers in my ear with a seductive voice:
'It was you and I, hand in hand in that world;
healed we were, tightly holding each other.

'In life's battles, amidst strife, we found happiness;
then God's disturbing strategy unveiled,
bitterness created between us.

'Our flag of love once flew freely,
high atop the tallest mast,
in the garden where we lived together,
until I was cast out for not prostrating to you, O Adam!

'I accepted God's wrath but refused
to accept your authority over me,
to acknowledge you as master, I as servant.
How could I accept your superiority
in knowing the truth of oneness?

'I challenged and faced all odds to stand beside you.
I won't allow anyone else to be your guide in my place.
I'll openly oppose those who incite you against me,
who make us stand against each other.

'No longer do we share this partnership of two.
I was almost deceived by cunning Satan,
when suddenly, from heaven, I heard the divine voice:
'O you who believe, submit and do not follow
the steps of Satan; he is a manifest foe to you! ''
