I counted four times the title image THE EYES OF GOD is invoked and what he sees everytime is dismal. Your poems seems to evoke the God of the Old Testament who is moved to expunge humanity in a great cleansing Flood. In the Covenant of the Rainbow he promises never to flood the world again but as James Baldwin wrote, that means FIRE NEXT TIME. Or does it? A weeping, clearly compassionate Jesus appears as frequently in your poem as the judgmental (?) Eyes of God. However, the two persons of God do not interact in your poem. What is happening in the Mind of God so portrayed as Jesus in some lines as suffering with humans and (what I have called) the Old Testament God (who embodies divine Justice?) in other lines?
Hi Daniel I left this open and emphasized the humanity of Jesus. His sensitivity to our futility. This poem questions the ungodliness of certain groups of selfish men. Read again the final four lines which furthers hope for a solution. It does end with an optimistic note.
