In The End, What Counts. Poem by Ogolla Enock

In The End, What Counts.

This world was passed down to us
and will continue on, with or without us.
By ourselves, we cannot carry its weight
on our shoulders and move an inch.
Only God is big enough to do that.

But with the best effort and intent,
and within the time given to us,
We can each play our honest part
and do it well as others did in their time.
and that's what counts.

We are not all-knowing and all-capable
as we often think we are. But we can each
pick the mantle from where it's left,
And strive to be and do better than
the previous generations and that's what counts.

There are no gods or genius in our lifetime
All there are, are ordinary men who occasionally,
By desire and pursuit, grow into great men:
Men who act on their conviction and do what's right
and not just men who simply follow the masses.

We may not have always lived our lives
With the honor, dignity, and respect required of us,
but moving forward, we can do what we can
to die with the honor required of us. In the end,
That's what counts and I hope you attain it.
