John, this is a very nice poem, a very persuasive one, to not think of spider's bad reputation. I love your last two lines 'The spider in its web', 'is nature at her height, ' 'Who deserves our admiration at the least'. You are right, spider at least will deserve either our mind or our deed. I love this
I always loved the story about Miss Muffett- my favorite nursery rhyme.! ! Anyway, your words about spiders here are so perfectly lovely and just right. Lots of spider lore too; no reason we can't learn while reading poetry, and you are good at teaching things. I bet you could even teach Miss Muffett a lot! ! (smile)
I love spiders! Black widows and garden spiders are my favorites. I have noticed while picking blackberries...the best, biggest, juiciest berries, are always, always protected by a huge web. The most giant of beautiful spiders are always here. They seem to know where to live in the best spots on earth. Spiders are amazing with their web work. Excellent written tribute! I enjoyed it. Thank you. DC
This poem caught my eye because I have a dreadful fear of spiders - there was a huge one on my carpet this morning! Not only is your poem entertaining, educational and adeptly crafted, it has allowed me to view the arachnid in a better light. Poetry meets therapy - excellent stuff! S ;)
It is good to appreciate the things of nature, no matter how dreadful the experience is. Nature is wonderful, even though not all is sweet from it. Interesting.
