In Praise Of Evening - In Memoriam: Charlie Poem by Charl JF Cilliers

In Praise Of Evening - In Memoriam: Charlie

To shed light we burn

as the day ages
our shadows grow thin

night is in us
ancient rhythms

rain staggering
across open veld

at noon alone
with ourselves

the day subsides
light starts slowly

to fade from the sun

it

cannot tell us
of evenings

absences of light
our shadows

reaching out to sing
reaching longer

and further
till the song

is the darkness
and we shed our light
