In Love There Can Be No Lies Poem by Tina Baaklini

In Love There Can Be No Lies

My love,

In love there can be no lies
For lovers within each other's hearts lie
Lying is hiding the truth behind
The curtains of falsehood
But love is unity, which requires
Transparency, which requires honesty

True love is unconditional
Loving only qualities is not love
For qualities are easy to be loved
But true love makes the person wonder:
How can I be so perfectly loved
With all my piles of imperfections

Love is not a temporary need
To be consumed till satiety
Like hunger or thirst
For self-love fills the person with
All the love it needs to feel complete

Love is a responsibility for a soul
That dwells within us
Thus love is based on mutual
devotion, mutual affection
And mutual compassion

That's what I learned from your
Unconditional, devoted and divine love
My sweet tender soulmate
My blessed gift from fate
