My esteemed poet, on one level, you are correct. But the poem is far from being just about reincarnation. It's more about the love/hate relationship between Jack Kerouac and his mother. And that was largely as a result of the tragic very early death of his brother Gerard.

This appears to be more about belief in rebirth which yet has no evidence
