In Arlington Poem by Jonathan H. Scott

In Arlington

THINK not, since we lie in eternal sleep,
That we died in vain— Oh, we know you weep
Under skies of blue and through darkest night.
We've taken our place; ‘twas for freedom's fight.
Now, we must stay whether gloomy or bright—
In Arlington.

Doubt not our resolve, for our faith was strong
In facing the foe and righting the wrong.
But, now it's your turn to be truly brave;
To carry the banner we used to wave,
While here we must stay for all that we gave—
In Arlington.

We cannot return; we are honor-bound
To hearken at dusk to the bugler's sound.
Committed are we— our duty is true;
Indeed, we have died, though we died for you.
Forever we stay; our battle is through—
In Arlington.
