If she is the thing, then for her own sense of self and for the education of the ill-informed she must insist with rectitude in being the thing and in being called the thing. High thinking of the great poetess Maya Angelou. tony

Women should be tough, tender, laugh as much as possible, and live long lives. The struggle for equality continues unabated, and the woman warrior who is armed with wit and courage will be among the first to celebrate victory. Advice of Maya Angelou..... a fine poem. tony

A rose by any other name may smell as sweet, but a woman called by a devaluing name will only be weakened by the misnomer. a glorious praise on womanhood. tony

A great write on being a woman...and more... but then I wonder what separates poetry from prose... poetry I know has gone a long way... a long way to meet prose? But poets have their freedom, and great poets...more so. And with so many appreciating, may be I am missing a point altogether.

A profound poem by Maya Angelo on womanhood- -She is not against men as such but against those who devalue and degrade women.

My first read of this, and I note in this prose the balance, reasonability, the healthy outlook of Angelou, a good and former American poet (not poetess) laureate. -GK

'the woman warrior who is armed with wit and courage will be among the first to celebrate victory' - wonderful, but this is more a prose piece than a poem.
