Mayflies only see one sunrise,
algae dies before the oak.
A wave created, hits the shore
and dissipates at that first stroke.
Oh beats so fast the hummingbird heart
In constant wheel we wax and wane.
The countdown quickens for when so small,
we live, we die, begin again
As rainbows slowly fade away,
from birth to death the Yang and Ying
of numbered heartbeats counting down,
but love.. what of this longed for thing?
If love were Turritopsis Duhrnii
t'would surely last eternally?
Immortal jellyfish so sage
please pass your secrets onto me….
1 - how long " before the oak" ? ? line 6: " wheel" seems strange here. how about " cycle" ? Perhaps if i had to look like THAT! ! ! , i'd 'pass'. Kostas' comment: also some jokester-priest with his " two cents" !
Hi Bri always love to get your comments …’Before the Oak’ relates to the differing life span between Algae and the Oak Tree..The Oak will generally outlive the Algae. ‘Wheel’ in this context is used as ‘to Wheel’ (Of a bird or aircraft) Fly in a wide circle or curve “ The birds wheeled and dived”

2 - from Wikipedia " In nature, most Turritopsis are likely to succumb to predation or disease in the medusa stage, without reverting to the polyp form.[8] The capability of biological immortality with no maximum lifespan makes T. dohrnii an important target of basic biological, aging and pharmaceutical research.[9]" bri :)
Hi Bri as for the immortality of the Jellyfish…well a little imagination is maybe needed here and whilst it IS referred to as an Immortal jellyfish immortality might be difficult to achieve but as poets we can all use that image to work on can’t we? Thank you once again Bri xx
