I'm Just Like You Poem by Joe Fraccalvieri

I'm Just Like You

I live between birth and death…
For this moment, that is-- ‘Now'!
I peer between days of darkness
and lights of night...
In blindness of wrong--
within sight of what's right...
In all that life will allow--
despite the meek to be strong
or the strong to seek might...
I just don't understand how

And as I gaze beyond my window...
To the pedestrians on the street--
Friends, I gladly greet...
Though sadly so, to those below,
I know I'll never meet...
I'm reminded that my world
is only as big as the space
which begins in my head
but ends on the heels of my feet

Still, I sometimes see a different world
when tears stream from my eyes
and another 'me' becomes unfurled
where I dream my dream in the skies

It's at times like these when I am mindful
of the company I keep...
The kindness that I reap

And, not wishing to disturb
the lives of those
who claim to know why I weep...
I simply walk on tippy-toes
through the worlds they create
while they sleep…

I'm just like you
