If poetry is delivered orally by the poet, to the hearer, then the hearer has not read it. Furthermore, if meaning is imparted, it is assumed, the person either read what was written themselves, or it was read to them. Hopefully, if it is inspiring, they will act
upon it. Sadly, as you wrote, there is not much hope of that happening.
