If I Was… Poem by Bleeding Heart

If I Was…

If I Was…
If I was crying,
Would you wipe my tears away?

If I was hurt,
Would you try to ease my pain?

If I was missing,
Would you search for me?

If I was wounded,
Would you attempt to heal my wounds?

If I was drowning,
Would you pull me out of the water?

If I was bleeding,
Would you try to stop the blood?

If I was falling,
Would you catch me?

If I was talking,
Would you listen to my words?

If I was leaving,
Would you say goodbye?

If I was in need,
Would you come to me?

If I was tripping,
Would you make sure I didn’t hit the ground?

If I was the sacrifice,
Would you try for me?

If I was dead,
Would you grieve and mourn for me?

And if I was broken,
Beyond all recognition or repair,
And you knew that there was nothing you could say or do,
To make it better,
To ease the pain,
Would you stay by my side?
Or would you walk away?
And leave me there,
Alone in my misery,
Forgotten and left in the cold,
My face becoming a vague and distant memory.
And that one day, you would forget my face and my name.
What Would You Do…If I Was…Gone?
