If I Die Without A Suitor Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

If I Die Without A Suitor

If I should die without a suitor's claim,
Unwedded, in a world of love's sweet pain,
Let not my end be marked by fear or blame,
Nor gossip's sting, nor hatred's cruel disdain.

Let not my heart be filled with envy's flame,
Nor jealousy consume my soul's desire,
For love should never cause such bitter shame,
But kindle hope and set the spirit higher.

In death, may I find peace and love's embrace,
A realm where souls are free from earthly strife,
Where love's true essence shines with radiant grace,
And hearts are joined in everlasting life.

So let me live my days with love's pure light,
And face my fate with courage, brave and true,
For love transcends the bounds of day and night,
And in its embrace, my soul will find its due.
