If I Could Poem by Weldon Davis

If I Could

If I could
Man I'd do this time for you
If I knew
That you would go home
And make a life for yourself

This is a fantasy
I play out
To each man
(Or woman for that matter)
Is their own

I can not shoulder that burden
No matter how much I wish I could

If I could
I'd give you the kind of advice
Only a real friend would give you
And hope you'd understand
Yeah
Hope you'd understand

If I could
I'd make those people see
That you're just a kid
Scared
Afraid to spend the decade
Away from your family

If I could
I'd put your baby
In your arms
And tell you that
He (Or she) is the most important thing
In the world

If I could
Man I'd give you a
Second..Third..Fourth..Fifth..Sixth
Chance
Cause we make so many mistakes in life

I know from experience
That intentions sometimes get skewed, and
We believe the only way
To do any good is to
Do a lot of bad in a hurry
Man..

If I could
I'd ease all your worry, and
Help you focus on the important
Forget all the non-sense
That has been taught to you

If I could
(This hurts the most)
I'd lead by example
Practice what I preach
Straighten up
So maybe you would see
What I could do
If only
I was willing to put forth the effort
And try
