Wow, a lost love so beautifully, and sadly, described. Adding to my fav poems list.

you/’the speaker’ seem fixated with/by a phantom lover. how could it be that a phantom seems to stand in ‘your’ way of answering the door when a “new love” knocks? it seems a bit surreal, but I guess some people are like that. [I’ll have you know that I don’t know when I last used the words “fixated” and “surreal”. ages ago, if ever! ] I love “weep” with “willow and the mourning dove”. ………… ‘weeping willow’ I presume! the rhyming redeemed (somewhat) the negativity of the topic. The 2nd and 3rd stanzas bother me a bit, as it seems to me each of the first two lines do not really (for me) lead into (realistically) each of the last two lines. but I can understand that your loneliness may affect how you think! :) or : ( ? On the other hand, I really enjoyed the last two stanzas. they seem to drive home the hopelessness of the unfortunate life situation. to MyPoemList and I’ll throw this one into my/our July showcase of poems/poets on my PH site. sleep well, my dear. bri ;)
