If Everyone Cared Poem by Christopher Cariad

If Everyone Cared

You are but a soldier,
holding the corpse of a dead child.
Blanketed by the blood of the world’s inaction,
you’re on your knee’s crying,
wishing the world would be different.
This kid was just walking
down the streets of Bagdad,
when the bomb exploded in a cafe’ not far off.
You pleaded to the heavens
“Why? ” Why is this world so cruel,
to allow such an innocent soul,
depart from this world so soon?
Why couldn’t we all care for each other?
What if we took our brother’s hand
and loved them?
What if we worked together,
and embraced our differences?
Worked together to create a beautiful world…
But instead we create a good and an evil,
to keep our need for hate alive.
God forbid we are all but humans!
We all hold the same core values,
of wanting to live happily.

I could only imagine a world,
where everyone cared enough,
to lend a helping hand.
Cared enough to stand up against war,
and direct their fights toward
ending hunger, thirst, and homelessness.
A fight towards the respecting of humankind.
Respect of all that the world has to offer as a whole.
Only in my mind have I predicted,
the results of such actions to take place.
I see a world happy.
Full of diversity and without hunger or worry.

A paradise you may call it,
walking forward through the streets,
seeing so many different people,
smiling and standing together.
What a dream world it is.
What a reality it could be.
A world set free from its troubles,
because everyone stood up and cared.

I can’t help but think,
somewhere out there in the heavens
there’s someone holding the world in their hands,
weeping.
Asking that inanimate globe ‘why? ’
Why do these people continue to allow
their planet to be bathed in blood shed?
Why are they sitting
idly by allowing it to happen?
Whispering to us down below,
you can make a difference.
You can end the pain and spread this love.
Be that change…
All you have to do is care.
That is all.
Just care.
