Icarus Poem by Amy Chai

Icarus

Rating: 3.0

With two wings, you covered your face.
What was it that you could not bear to see?
My heart is melted like wax.

With two wings, you covered your feet.
If you were imperfect, I never noticed it.
Your shadow covers me.

The only thing you ever really wanted
Was to behold the face of God.

And with two wings, you flew.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Psalm 22 is an important literary influence in my poems. The imagery of the Cherubim contrasted with Icarus is a picture of the tragedy of human longing.
