I Wrote This Poem Fighting Suicidal Thoughts Poem by David Page- aka Harry Riley

I Wrote This Poem Fighting Suicidal Thoughts

The ship of life:
Two great enemies have I known in my life
The first one took Father, the second one took away my wife
It was Burma for Father in World War Two
And it was Cancer for Maggie with nothing I could do

But the ship of life goes sailing by
'Give Up, Give In' the storm clouds cry
You accept your lot, lingering on for just another day
Yet wishing you might drift away

What lives we live, what care we take
What favors from the Gods we shake
Life's candle burns so bright when young
But years soon pass and our song is sung
