I Would Like To Relive Poem by Hebert Logerie

I Would Like To Relive

I would like to see Queen Anacaona in her heydays
I would like to see the native goddesses with the golden smiles
I would like to see a gorgeous Haiti with less misery and martyrs
I would like to see a country surrounded by tropical flowers.

To relive is to dream with our eyes hermetically closed
To see again is to relive nostalgic and warm fabliaux
Oh! We have to move forward, since it's impossible
To return to the berth of an island which was gentle and simple.

I would like to return to the paths traveled yesterday
But, alas, that would be weird and I wouldn't be proud of it
Because I'm already late and the route is already set
I don't want to go back, where there is so much disarray.

I would like to revisit the past because the road is sodden
I would like to freeze time and delay the unhappy hands
Which work tirelessly like slaves and relentlessly like ants
Though they ultimately drown in the bloody white coffins.

God created man and woman like soldiers: let's go forward
Forward, because we can't stop time to admire the wind
We can't waste hours and seconds rejuvenating night and day
While you and I grow old and old to die sloshed in the vineyard.
