I wish I were a sailing boat
With a white canvas cloth,
Ready to sail the seven seas
Coming and going as I pleased,
I wish I were a sailing boat
At peace with the waves,
Learning the language of the fish
And earning Neptune's sweet kiss,

I wish I were a sailing boat
Guided by the twinkling stars,
Constantly comforted
By their friendship from afar,
I wish I were a sailing boat
Corresponding with the whales,
Talking to the dolphins
And persuading the gail,
To hasten for a moment yet
And to be still for just awhile,
So that I may enjoy the ocean's breeze
And see the sun's sunny smile
