I Wish Poem by Niyitanga Pacifique

Like a sunshine
in the blue skies;
Shiny and warm—
through the mists;

Like a singing bird
in the morning;
Free and confident,
Voicing its rapture;

I want to wake up—
like the sunflowers,
Waving through the
slowly blowing wind;

Like a baby looking—
at its mother's face;
I want to feel loved,
And smile as I get up.

I wish I would sleep
peacefully at night
Before midnight; soft
and warm as a child,

So I could wake up—
in the morning light,
Stress-free in delight
as a tripping butterfly.
