I Was There Poem by Skylark Woodrow

I Was There

I was there long ago near the beginning, hidden within the darkness of the night.
I was there when the creatures first yawned and opened their eyes,
I was there when they closed them in slumber.
I was there when the sun shone down upon the delicate mosses and plants.
I was there when the wind danced 'round the majestic trees who stood tall and proud as far as the eye could see.
I was there when rain gently nourished the land and when storms threatened to tear it apart.
I was there when the plants and animals cried out with thirst and their thirst was not quenched.
I was there when the forest was lush and green; thriving.
I was there when strange sicknesses threatened to destroy it all; still it survived.
I was there when They came.
I was there when They cut down the trees, burned the plants, and poisoned the land "making room" for Their people.
I was there when the forest dwindled and disappeared.
I was there when They came, and the forest was no more.
