I Was In Love Poem by Randy McClave

I Was In Love

We kissed when no one was looking
We held hands when no one else was there,
As a couple we were always cooking
And our love as one unto God we did swear.
She said our pics were for us only to see
And our notes and letters were for us only to read,
I believed in our world there was only her and me
She gave me all that I truly did want and need.
None of her family or friends knew who I was
It was nobody else's business she said my dear,
Maybe I was the only one that was in love
And I was always in love when she was near.
Knowing about us to the world it was forbidden
Even though we slept and awoke in the same bed,
She said that our love must always be hidden
"Or" as she said, it would bring her worries and dread.
I wasn't allowed to visit her at her house
But, she could come to my home anytime without thought,
In her home I was welcomed like a mouse
In my home, she was the love that I always sought.
Together her and I went to my church
Together her and I as one voice sang to God a hymn,
Truly I believed for a love God had ended my search
But, then later instead of going to church, she slept in.
I always believed what she said was honesty and a fact
I knew that she would never lie or even tell a myth,
She loved me I believed as we always had each other's back
She then left me, for the man whom she secretly was with.
