I Walked Away Poem by Randy McClave

I Walked Away

She told me to slap her as hard as I can
Because she had cheated on me with another man,
She broke a promise that we made to each other
That in our lives together there will not be another.
She told me how she had made a grave mistake
And how her love for him was made up and fake,
And she was sorry about the lies that she said about me
When my pain and my hurt she did finally see.
I told her that I always thought we were a happy pair
And I loved her so much, and I always truly did care,
I remembered how we always joked and laughed while together
And I thought what we had, no one could ever sever.
She told me that she was very sorry for all of the lies
And she was also sorry for all the broken ties,
She said that she was sorry for the promises that she made
She was sorry that she broke them all when with another man she laid.
Of course this wasn't the first time that she committed this sin
And of course she asked me to forgive her once again,
I loved that woman with all my being and my soul and heart
So, of course I already forgave her from the very start.
I gave her whatever her heart or soul did yearn
And I never asked for anything ever in return,
I remember the many times that she told me she loved me so much
And how I was her only supportive loving crutch.
I then told her to close her eyes because this might hurt a bit
So, she closed her eyes and she waited for the hit,
She had once told me that her ex had smacked and hit her before
So, she said that she was prepared for what was in store.
I then looked at her with my hand balled into a fist
Then finally the hurt and the pain from my soul I dismissed,
For my forgiveness, she said that she once again did pray;
I then kissed her on her forehead, then forever I walked away.
