......................
I think I saw an Alligator,
All green and gray and stark,
Stirring waterwheels and ripples
In the dank and dismal dark,
Watching through the dim-dim light
For a something tasty walking by,
So very Alligator patient,
I could almost hear it sigh.
I think I saw an Alligator
Spinning in the soupy mire.
His eyes were oobled roundish knobs,
With teeth sharp as barbed wire.
And I am almost even certain
From the little I could see,
That he was studying his dinner,
And those dinner plans included me.
