I Tamper With The Word 'mercurial' Poem by Raj Dronamraju

I Tamper With The Word 'mercurial'

I tamper with the word "mercurial"
I remain solid under any given circumstance
A palimpsest with no text bleeding through
A dropped face with no depth to the disgust

In disguise, I act like I'm engaged
By raising my voice and shouting with impotence
Fidget for the devil and grant him full supervisorial powers
Unhinged valentine pierces the purity of inaction

I tamper with the word "mercurial"
I reject any pressure to move quickly
I'll live in darkness for just a little while longer
It's cool, it's reassuring, there's no need here to make a rise

Arisen or being pushed into a rise
Share the prison cell of someone weak and pathetic
Flinging trance inducing tantrums
Being literal like the clubs that cavemen knock out their brides with

Somehow, I knew yoga related peace ceremonies
Observers equipped with ice packs
Would create the force for irrevocable change
Channel anxiety's opposite and stifle wild mania
