The anxiety of a child for her mother has beautifully been expressed. A mother's AANCHAL(saree end) is a means to the child hide from fears. Beautiful

No one yes No one is equal to mother. But things change.People forget the mother's undivided attention and care, Old age home only is the only place they are sent, either with reason or no reason. BHagbhan is a nice movie.

Thank you. This is a living breathing portrait of Mothers, loving Mothers everywhere and the gentle soothing memories that fill our souls when life distresses us and wounds us and through these memories we can crawl back on Mother's lap and be comforted and feel safe once again. Only your pen could have given such gentle and lasting life to this glimpse into the woman who is Mother.

As children we are often taught fear by well-intentioned folks for whatever reason they have chosen. Fear of harmless creatures, fear of the unknown, fear of people who are different from us. Your vivid and engaging story reveals the power of love over fear, one of the deepest currents of truth in the story of humanity; and how precious ever is the love of a mother and child for each other. The beautiful symbolism of the saree representing the shrouding protective love of the mother for her child; again, one of the deepest and enduring symbols of all life. Timeless and sweeping truths so beautifully carried along by your poetry. Bravo!

always the mother. It never ends until we end. Nice expressive piece and I like the use of the image and sound of the frog as reminder of our fragility. The mother-child bond is so special and needed. We all need it. Thanks for sharing Bharati.

Thank you Pamela for your lovely comment.Frog's image is for fragility and children learn it through stories.

Hi Bharati, An excellent poem on the child-mother bondage. The strong bondage of love continues even when the mother has grown old and daughter lives apart.. But Bharati, the question Rajen Sir asked below, is the one came in my mind when I read the poem.: Is it a part of folklore of your region that a croaking frog is ominously bad for mothers? Could you throw light on this? Thank you.100+

Is it a part of folklore of your region that a croaking frog is ominously bad for mothers? Well, against that belief, you have woven a beautiful poem on mother-daughter bond. Blessed be and may mother's anchal be always around you when you are in dire straights. A very good write indeed. (10)

With my mother by my side / Darkness thinned / Fear vanished. // I love these three lines: I can find the whole experience of my childhood in them - the presence of a loving parent can accomplish so much for a child, just a parent's presence, no other gesture needed, it's an automatic peace of mind. // Also, your poems show how childhood innocence can be suddenly disrupted by a passing fear. In that moment a child has their first tentative lesson in love's responsibilities: all of us must protect and save if necessary the lives of those we love. It just occurs to me I find that theme in your book of poems.

Children are wise. They know their parents cannot live forever, but they dare not speak out their deepest fears directly, so they speak through stories. The frog is a creature of night and its croaks mark a change of season, so the child borrows a frog-monster to speak of fear. The mother comforts the uneasy child with a kiss and caress, as if giving physical protection from the dark. In adulthood the grown-up daughter relives this moment of seeking comfort, but this time it is shown through the anchal of a sari. The anchal is the most intricately patterned part of the sari, and from this poem we can see that it is used expressively.A fine poem,10

Thank you Denis Mair for your kind comment.Your reference to, Anchal as the most most intricately patterned part of the Saree, is really a lovely comment.'Love and affection are the most beautiful aspect of life that fills ones'heart with a sense of pleasure and security..The children who get ample love in their life grow up to show more balanced emotion in their later life.
