I Stand Poem by Bien Nathaniel Gerodias

I Stand

I stand
at the edge of a vast, unreachable ocean,
longing for the shore that holds my heart,
but no matter how far I stretch my hands,
the waves
never
return my touch.

The stars I've pinned my hopes to
hang just beyond my grasp,
and the more I yearn,
the more the sky seems to mock me.
If I dared to follow the currents,
to let the tide carry me closer,
I would be branded a shadow in the daylight,
a storm where none is wanted.

I send my messages like whispers
on the wind,
but they drift away,
unanswered, as time twists my patience into knots.
And yet, just when I falter,
when my soul begins to crack,
they slip through my fingers
like sand—so easily.

All the while, a nameless fear festers,
gnawing at my core,
that should another set foot on that shore,
they will be met with open arms,
while I remain the one
the sun refuses to rise for.
