I need to get among the horses
I need to talk to them again
I need to feel their breath on my face
I need to feel the strength of their muscles
I need to ride them again
They give my heart wings
They restore my soul
.
Riding through the desert
in the early light of dawn
in the cool of morning breeze
watching the pheasants rise
watching the coyote breaking cover
feeling the power and grace of horse
beneath me one more time.
.
Riding through the cottonwoods
in the green barn pasture
down by the river down by the pond
down where the sunlight filters down through the leaves
and speckles light and shadow upon the horse and me
feeling the power and grace of horse
beneath me one more time.
.
I need to walk among the horses again
I need to walk among them one more time
I need to ride the horses bareback again
I need to ride them one more time
I am not who I am without them
They gave my heart wings
They restored my soul.

Rebecca--thank you for reading this---my soul aches for the companionship of horses again---too old and beat up to ride anymore but I wish I could spend hours with them again as I used to do---maybe in heaven I will---thank you Rebecca for caring --you are a good friend
I need to walk among the horses again....the keenness for doing something that you love is very much reflected here. The love matters a lot...great expression!
This is absolutely beautiful; the transcendent connection, the restoration of love, the near holy experiential moment when you there AMONG the horses... incredible. Pure perceptive poetry. Wow.
Thank you, Smoky, I knew my friend would know the feeling being a lover of horses and all thing horses!
