I Met A Man Poem by Vera Sidhwa

I Met A Man

I Met a Man

I met a man who handcrafted things,
And he gave me a carved piece of wood.
I met a man who wore rich clothes,
And he gave me a scarf, saying he should.

I met an engineer,
Who gave me calculations.
I met a biochemist,
Who showed me bubbling reactions.

A man who had designed buildings,
Gave me brick and cement things.
I met a man of so many books for me.
He gave me books galore you see.

The man who sat by the wayside,
Gave me a smile,
For he could give me nothing,
He gave me a piece of Heaven for a while.
