I Love The Slugs Poem by Shane Dickie

I Love The Slugs

I love the slugs; and the eels and the

Cockroaches and the rats and everything else

Creepy crawly and abominable to Man.

Man despises because he puts himself above all

They are my friends, my brothers

In-arms, they know not that they are ugly,

No one has told them so and how are they to

Know to abhor their own crude likeness?

Only we can learn to judge, of what or who to hate

And who deserves our praise and adulation.

We alone make angels; we alone make demons.

it is unfortunate that the germans call a tortoise a Schildkrote, when that word literally means Shield-toad
