I Know That You Would Love Me Poem by John Yaws

I Know That You Would Love Me

I know that you would love me
If you could feel my heart.
And see how much I miss you
When we are far apart.
If you could see the worship
Lain up in there for you-
I know you couldn't help it
You'd have to love me too.
I know that you would love me
If seeing through my eyes
Your person is more lovely
Than any paradise.
The feelings which I hold for you
Can't be expressed by words
Nor can the pleasance of your voice
Be matched by any birds.
Though true their songs be lovely
When falling on my ear-
No voice can match your voice, my love
For only you I hear.
I know that you would love me
If I could but describe-
The feelings warring in me
When you are by my side.
Alas, my clumsy tongue and speech
Can never quite convey-
The feelings for you in my heart-
And so you tell me, "Nay."
