I Hit The Ocean Wall One Day Poem by Mark Nichols

I Hit The Ocean Wall One Day

Oh, long ago, when I was young
I sailed across the ocean
Away, away, away,
Had no intention back in those days
But to be away, away, away

I hit the ocean wall one day
Majestic, great and frightening
I could not hear what people cried,
For the thunder and the lighting

Oh, long ago, when I was young
I sailed across the ocean
Away, away, away,
Had no intention back in those days
But to be away, away, away

The mermaids wailed to me as I
Was running for the stern
Their wavy hair was glistening
As each came above sea in turn
Their pearl-encrusted faces
So terrible and light
Could not save I as I sunk by
The dark and gloomy water
Disappearing at the wall
Into the deepest night
