I Don't Want To Be A Role Model Poem by Umasree Raghunath

I Don't Want To Be A Role Model

I do not want to be a glowing torch in dark halls
Just let me sit in silence without applause or calls

I do not seek to lead or lift heavy burdens high
Just let me breathe with ease and not always ask why

I do not dream of pedestals or gold plated crowns
I want my feet on earth in my own quiet towns

I do not crave to inspire or light another fire
I want rest from running from duty and desire

I am not your warrior or goddess or perfect guide
I am a woman weary who wants to stop the ride

Do not call me brave if you do not see my pain
Do not sing my songs if you ignore my rain

Let me live my life not as strength in disguise
But as one who falters and still dares to rise

I do not want medals or titles or loud cheer
Just some gentle truth and kindness near

I am not your myth not your hope not your plan
I am simply a woman just trying to stand
