I'd Like To Build Poem by Pleasant Dabbs

I'd Like To Build

I'd like to build my world around you
But my carpenters have all gone on strike
If this announcement should astound you
You see it's they won't work for me when it is you that they dislike
You know my love has had a strong foundation
You laid down mortar, brick, and stone
So tell me why, when I pass final inspection
You disappear and my world and I are left all alone
