I Card Poem by Namita Rani Panda

I Card

The cat chases the rat
To satisfy his hunger
And walks silently with soft paws
Mews and purrs for affection
We can say it's a cat, no need of identification.

The tiger preys the deer
To satisfy his hunger
Lurks in tall grasses near the source of water
Pounces on his prey, growls and roars
But never needs an I card for identification.

But we humans hound and pounce on our fellow beings
And dangle I Cards to show that we're doctor, engineer, teacher or director,
priest, yogi, sanyasi or manager,
To wear Mr Jekyll to hide Mr Hyde within
Though everyoneone is bestowed with brilliant perception!
