I Am Starting A Commune Poem by Chuy Amante

I Am Starting A Commune

In this world,
where you don't fit in,
have you exhausted
all avenues
or do you not know
just where to begin?

I found no
'Mainstreamers'
who wanted to look
at the stars each clear night
and fewer who
wanted to eat home-grown
organic, nutritious food.
Yoga didn't go over
well either,
nor the peaceful music,
nor couples with deep breathing
meditations
and heaven-forbid the
lack of tvs
and we won't talk
of the outdoor-
solar-heated shower...

I was the outcast
so I started my own
community of
children of god.

Life is worth believing,
group fire chats,
steamy hot tubs,
green-house fun,
marijuana tea with soy milk,
optional clothing,
shared meals,
peacefulness,
yoga at sunset,
fresh water,
holy books studied and discussed,
much sweat,
happy toil,
community,
equity,
love,
god,
US,

I enjoy the night sky, but shooting stars are too brief to wish upon. Your commune sounds wonderful... and smells even better; perhaps the homegrown you mentioned...?
