I am a slave
Of color and shame.
I am a slave
Of fear and grief.
I am a slave
Of culture and stereotypes.
I am a slave
Of plunder
That taxes my labour
And my children's education
And my sickness
And my celebrations.
I'm a slave
Because this land was mine
To breathe and to rejoice
In God's name.
But everywhere I'm a slave
segregated into Nations
Of multi-colored passports
Divided into ethnicity
Molded by nationality
Of guarded enclaves
And sorrowful strife.
