This is a short, powerful outline of a global failure and a responsibility not yet met (if ever seen) . A staccato of facts and promises meets a poetic thought. Thank you for promoting awareness.
In Tamizh (The language spoken by the people of Tamizhnad, a state of India who number 77 million) that says that if food is cooked in one house, no one will be left hungry in seven neighbouring houses
2) that is, food need to be shared with those who are hungry. But who cares today? Hundreds of million in Somalia are starving. But the UN and the rich countries turn a deaf ear to their cries of hunger
"Zero Hunger" is something we all need to work for unitedly
2) Look at how much the late Harry Chapin was able to successfully accomplish with The Hunger Project. If one artiste can do all that...imagine what all the poets on PH can successfully accomplish! LET'S DO IT NOW! ! !
So true and Such relevant thought, Richard! It is true that we can do a lot! Though I do what I can as an individual, I know it is not sufficient… Thank you, dear poet, for sharing the noble thoughts.. I am proud of you, Sir
Poet Menon, this poem is far more than 'a few stray thoughts'. It speaks volumes in addressing such an ongoing crisis. Poets, and all artistes, have the power to end world hunger!
Thank you, Richard. What I feel really helpless is the hunger still prevailing in the so-called "Developed" world
(2) That is about the Tamil culture, about sharing food, in an age when food was not abundant. Not a grain would be allowed to go waste.
There is a beautiful saying in Tamil, speaking volumes about the Tamil Culture, community and people: "If the hearth burns in one house, in the seven houses around it will not have hunger".
I had posted a "Thank You "note here. But it has disappeared. Can PoemHunter help me?
The was a custom in the agrarian families of Kerala. Before the family sat for dinner, the lady of the house would come to the gate and call "is there anybody who have not had your dinner? " If anyone responded, she would feed them, before she had her dinner. Such were the days

The response to your initial inquiry is, the avarice of mankind. You accurately observed that despite having an abundance of resources, many people still suffer from hunger due to the wastefulness of the wealthy and the oppression of the powerful.5****
We are good at observing days like - mother's day, father's day, Environment's day, Hunger's day so on and so forth, but hardly do anything to correct it or set it right. Thought provoking poem.
You said it, dear poet! Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts
Superb poem, you are so right we produce enough food for all but poorer nations still have to beg. We waste so much food too, and the biggest waste is water when we leave our taps running or hosing the garden when others die of thirst.
You are right, David. I could not recall who said, "The next world war will be for water"! Thank you, dear poet.
All men need to unite in the fight against hunger. The ‘rich' nations do nothing
Facts do not cease to exist because they are being ignored. Well articulated and insightful penned with conviction.
