How To Honour Our Poethood? Comments

Rating: 5.0

We may note that some of our poet friends stoop down to levels of mudslinging at those whom they don`t like, making derogatory remarks, posting hurting comments and then managing to win the appreciation of a few for some other writes in all hypocrisy.

Another wrong habit to be done away with is excessive submission of many poems at a time on a regular basis!

Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions here. One thing I must say that a poet should not be discouraged by negative remark as it is part of any creative process.Appreciation of othe'r's work is essential for growing as a poet If one's work is not read, it hampers his spirit. As you said.one should take time to give comments on other''s poems that will create more stimulating atmosphere for all.Yes, we should keep intervals in posting poems so that readers will get time to read and appreciate

Let every poet strive to deliver high quality poems. It should not be a problem if someone delivers a high quantity of high quality poems. Dinesh has provided several thoughts related to poems to be presented. Thoughtfulness in remarks is essential. These remarks are source of encouragement for many. If someone is not impressed, then do not comment. Never make a derogatory comment. Encouragement of others to deliver quality poems is a necessary part of the forum. Thank you Dinesh for your thoughtful proposal.

a very honest and straightforward statements put forth by you Sir, and I agree with all your points...... 1) the indirect approach made by many pointing towards someone written in a coded language is a major disaster of poems that I have found in this site, , , , , , and on top of it, people even appreciating on such poems with usage of adjectives as u have rightly pointed out............. 2) the sarcastic comments given by some that would hurt the poet or make the other readers form a different opinion as well........ 3) points 3 and 4 duly noted and totally agree with u.......... a good one Sir........ u have been blunt and straightforward in your views which in my opinion would only help the other person to grow if he/she takes it in the right sense thx for being a guide and mentor for freshers like us

I agree with a lot of what you say, I have seen hurtful comments but have only seen one poet leave them. As for mud slinging there is no need for it what so ever. As for ratings I totally agree with you, there is some very very good poets who are no where near even the top hundred. It's all down to how many poets on poemhunter read them. There is very little we can do to change how the ratings work. When I stopped smoking I read and commented on many poems, and in return they read mine, and because they had not read my poetry before I ended up in the number one spot. If I had not stopped smoking and not made as many comments I would not have been number one. As for the comments like, A superb poem or a great write, I don't mind that. Sometimes people will read a poem and no matter how much they like it just can't think of what to say, but they want to say something just so the poet knows that they like their poems.

An interesting discourse Dinesh, and I am inclined to agree with many of the points you make. It is, however, everyone's prerogative to write what they want, unless of course it contains bad language. Therefore, there is little we can do to change things. PH is an extremely large site and this therefore precludes selectivity. I myself post on another site which adheres to many of these ideals, including limiting the number of submissions which may be made in a week to just four. This gives everyone a fair chance of being read, and prevents some writers from hogging the limelight. Good and constructive critique is also encouraged as a means of improving writing skills. Your submission here is worthy of thoughtful consideration by all.

As poets we should honor our craft. Encourage the young poets to hone their skills in by doing so our craft will continue to thrive. Show respect for all poets as we are all in different levels of writing. Offer encouraging comments. Trash words is really not poetry, it is just venting emotions in public. This is a community of dedicated writers and we should act as such.

Sir, I agree with what you want to say. As a new comer, like me made lot of mistakes. But definitely, I would like to tell that many comments from Ph did changed my writings a lot. Many things, I learned and When I was new, I found some poem so tough to understand, but I always made sure to understand it by google dictionary. In this process, I learnt a lot. Some sincere comments, I can easily guess, did change my way of writing. So each time I say I respect your knowledge, its that I am learning from you. I liked many new comers like me can definitely get a chance to make their dream come true. In one sense you are helping many new comers to come up.Thats the only reason, I respect each and everyone here in Ph. Yeah, I read others poems and write comments in short example i loved it and wow, wonderful. I agree that I should describe what the poem meant too so that a poet understands how much as a reader I understood poem well. Yeah, I do agree I submitted so many poems in 4 months..some went unread too. One poem Neelu went to top, I agree there were many errors, inspite of all mistakes.. Well I did nothing to come to top hot poem list. It surprised me. My poems misunderstood because my way of communication is not proper. So I am misunderstood. In Ph forum I asked my poems are miscommunicated, they said write with heart and guts. So the poem Neelu came. I agree readers don't know whether it is real or imaginary. So choice left to them. Sir, I agree that I shouldn't make mistake and Not necessary all readers understand me well.. Yeah, I am quiet sensitive person, so I often pass pleasant comments only, I make sure that I don't want to hurt any person by my words, but I am deeply hurt because of my poems, am being misunderstood. Especially I respect each one of you here, I feel hurt when they write any unpleasant comments. My aim to coming to Ph was only for poems, I can never ever think of making anyones life miserable because of me. To the new comers, I often pass motivating comments only because whenever, I write comments I put myself in that place. But definitely I request each respected poet to guide us whenever we do mistakes in our poems especially for a new comers like me. Thank you Sir, for posting such a write in PH. Definitely one can communicate freely in this session. Thanks a lot for your time and patience.
