The depth of meaning has an amber cast.
Deep wells of sunset hold the landscape fast,
To speak a shadow, Friend, would disallow,
The silent fall of light that is the now.

'The silent fall of light that is the now.' if for me the core of this soft piece dressed in reverence and amber light. The candle flame has long been inspiration for meditation. Your poem touches the heart of the meditative mind, recognizing as it does so superbly, the fleeting nature of life - 'One lovely flicker and the world goes out.' Superb poetry. love, Alison ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
My maternal grandfather used to quote: 'I burn my candle at both ends. It will not last the night. But, oh my friends and ah my foes - it gives a glorious light.' Thanks for bringing me back to such a happy but long buried memory. Blessings always, Bill Grace
Even through the dark, our candles shine. Slowly diminish. But, while the flame goes on, our lives can make so huge a difference. Oh, how lovely a poem.xxElysabeth
Reminds me of Jackson Browne's Song For Adam, though yours is much more concentrated in style, and more thematically focussed. Beautiful work, and strikes exactly that part of our awareness that knows the truth of your words, but insists on turning its back. Brilliant as always. xx jim
You speak the truth here so vividly, beautiful work Sandra---Melvina---
How like a candle our life is about. One lovely flicker and the world goes out. inspires me to make a Haiku for you. charles garcia How like a candle One lovely flicker world goes out Our life is about
This poem is sculpted in light. What exquisite imagery! You unveil hidden worlds. The last stanza lingers in the mind. The last two lines are unforgettable.
Hello Sandra One like a candle; One lovely flicker and the world goes out; I'm going to paste in my favorite thought journal; If we could only get this message out. sure would make our lifes so much easier. Hope all is well with you. charles garcia
Hi Sandra! Thanks for sharing this poem. There is much to learn here for new poets like us, especially the technique of using various images and similes.
'One lovely flicker and the world goes out.' This is true. The entire universe goes on systematically playing its vital role. Imagine one slip somewhere. What happens then? chaos. It is like one discordant note in between a pleasant musical performance. It is alright if it is music, no harm to the life. It is not 'lovely flicker', my dear, but 'dangerous flicker.'
Sandra, this is an exquisite poem - it's one I could read over and over. The gentleness of this composition shone out. I particularly liked the last line 'One lovely flicker and the world goes out'.Kind regard.s, Justine
i just love this poem, probably because it appeals to chinese sentiment. the candles always hold fascination among chinese. they use them for all festive occasions and they must be long big and red. thanks for comment on my side sandra and give us more.
Exquisite. This screenview robs me of the words I would praise. The last stanza shines with a light of its own.
A beautiful write on the brevity and vagaries of existence, on the warmth and light that we could shed meanwhile. My regards and respects to you.
