How am I to describe that feeling,
That a child has laughingly reeling?
Like tweeting birds on a lovely summer day?
Or like sleek otters splashing at play.
Is soaring joy summed up fully
In the flying of an eagle?
Or in the tossling of a little pup,
Or, less mild, the howling of a beagle?
Maybe in the little bees a-buzz,
Or perhaps the leaping squirrel?
Could it be the smiling of a gerbil a-fuzz,
Or the maple's seeds dancing twirl?
No, none of this will ever do,
None of this will ever make me sense,
How much joy I feel when I am with you.
As we sit side by side in happy reverence.
We watch this perfect scene unfold,
Before our eyes in the lake and in the meadow,
Otters in and eagles over the water's cold
Beagles, bees, birds, squirrels, gerbils, and maples bid us hello!
