This poem deals with a very unclean breakup, loose ends all over, and you're alone in dealing with them. You know how counterproductive it is to tolerate these loose ends, but you cannot tale a scissors and cut them off. These are products of still LIVING IF NOT LOVING EMOTIONS, AND THE POEM SHOWS YOU CAN'T BE THE AGENT WHO SLICES FREE OF YOUR PERSON. That paradox of feeling is what makes this such an evocative and wonderful poem. You will probably let these dangling memories gradually wither and shrivel up then you will be free but at a great loss. And the experience has deepened your emotional being, your Heart has grown larger.
