Horror-Struck Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

Horror-Struck

Breaking routines, people go sorrowful
Taking a slice out of life, paying a tribute
Mourning, over ‘Jallian Wala Bagh' episode
Choosing words over digits on the ‘Baisakhi'
Getting ready for a ‘bhangra' blast...

Fostering art, salvaging heritage
Wait a while, it's just the life
Never, out of its original style
And humour yet a critical element.

Over, as the tragic-overcast
Reclaiming goodness over the fake
Here in Punjab on ‘Baisakhi'
The songs and dance, ‘Bhangra-Gidha'.

All colours at its peak, singing folk-lore
Of all souls young, old and adults-
All singing and dancing together
Wishing a happy Baisakhi being upset.

By the rape-culture at Unnao and Kathua
Disgracefully mourning today:
With a heavy heart, nation is ashamed
Ashamed, appalled and horror-struck.
