Honest To A Point Poem by Randy McClave

Honest To A Point

I never told a lie to deceive
Or to ever falsely believe,
But, once to soften and to relieve
Then I cried.

I never told a lie to hate
Or to change mine or another's fate,
Or to remove a weight
I always have my honor and pride.

I never told a lie to cheat
Or to ever mistreat,
Or to even cause a minute defeat
Truth is on my side.

I never told a lie to use
Or other's feelings to trick and abuse,
Truth and respect I would always choose
As my words so implied.

I never told a lie to steal
Or to change how others should feel,
I am honest, truthful and real
My conscience is my guide.

I never told a lie to benefit me
Or just wanting to set my soul free,
But, I spoke one once to say, "healthy is she"
Then (she) my mom died.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The first part of this poem was inspired by a woman who I loved and in a recent relationship with, as though I though. I never lied in any manner or way to my supposed girlfriend, but she did to me constantly.... I will not lie.
The later part of this poem was inspired by my mother, I was taking her to the hospital late one night, and she passed away in my car, but before she passed away I told her a lie, "I told her she will be okay". This poem was inspired by my mom.
