I believe some who 'followed' Hitler did it out of greed, antisemitism, and anti-other things, and fear for their own safety or the safety of their relatives etc. That's enough for now. ;)

Five years ago, YOU left this in a comment: 'I sometimes wonder how a single person'Hitler' could brainwash a whole race into committing such crime against humanity..' I say: 'it was NOT Hitler alone doing the 'dirty work', and a 'whole race' which was 'brainwashed'. (cont.)

(cont.) I also noticed that I referred to killings my Nazis as having been in 1941-1945 [the years the U.S. joined allies in the war]. But killing persecution (and I think killing) occured long before 1941. (cont.)

Bharati, I did not think your poem dealt well with the subject of mass-killing of humans. I read many oler comments including from me, including some suggestions I had and still have today. (cont.)

'Brunt' is another word, a noun, meaning something else. Using 'stump' often indicates the death of the rest of by trunk, by cutting or breaking. Some trees may sprout new trunks if enough tissue still lives. (cont.)

'But- - - - - The charred images of beautiful flowers Half brunt stump of A fruit giving tree Will take time to heal.' Bharati, I would write 'the images of charred flowers', 'burnt', not 'brunt', and 'fruit-giving'.

Our aim should be to remove hatred and sow the seeds of love between people and people and it should start from a very young age. A child's mind is very impressionable. The school curriculum and text books should be so designed as to instill love and respect for all people.

Thanks to Bri Edwards and all great poets here who have given their thoughtful comments on this poem'Holocaust'.It is a very sensitive topic and the very mention of the word invokes images of such unparalleled cruelty that humans can cause to other humans.I sometimes wonder how a single person'Hitler' could brainwash a whole race into committing such crime against humanity..

(cont.) ..I DO see a connection between holocaust referring to the 'killing' of Jews and others by Hitler's minions. But you do not make it clear how you are using the word. it has a more generic meaning also. [see my further comment, to follow] to MyPoemList. (cont.)

(cont.) swiftly, not swift in this case. :) i would type: the images of charred flowers and i would use fruit-giving (with hyphen) and a stump is what is left when a tree is cut off close to the ground; perhaps trunk would be better, though i HAVE heard of apple trees rejuvenating from stumps. (cont.)
