A very relaxed poem. A pleasure to read. I have never hitched but given a few lifts over the years. There is a care free spirit rarely evident anywhere else in life.

Ah yes the open road, just thinking about it brings a tear to my eye, and a warming of my heart. I can actually hear Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson in the background.

Those was the days when you could just hitch a lift. We used to hitch rides home from rock concerts, We'd miss the end of the gig if we went for the last train. A great poem.

I remember the days when hitchhiking was considered a viable option..if this isn't poetic license, Smoky, I hope that you will exercise due caution, on that long highway to wherever.. ;)
