Hindi Diwas (Day) Poem by Devesh Path Sariya

Hindi Diwas (Day)

On this Hindi Diwas,
I received a poem calligraphed in Mandarin as a gift.

On this Hindi Diwas,
an American girl told me
that she is learning the craft of writing stories
from Tagore's book.

On this Hindi Diwas,
I recommended Nirmal Verma
to a poetess who writes beautiful love poems.

On this Hindi Diwas,
I translated a couple of Russian Poems to Hindi.

On this Hindi Diwas,
I made myself chuckle
by reading a favorite poem of mine
in Rajgarh dialect.

On this Hindi Diwas,
My eyes welled up when I fondly recalled
the appeasing words of a Punjabi girl,

On this Hindi Diwas,
a man from the desert walked restlessly
in the garden of languages,
crying, laughing, and singing in Hindi.
