Herself Poem by whistle gal

Herself

Rating: 4.3

She looks past herself
As Billy Joel sings
'I want you just the way you are, '
And thinks to herself,
'What a lucky girl.'

She looks inside herself
As he tells her,
'I will never control you, '
And thinks to herself,
'Now I will let you.'

She looks beyond herself
At the girl she thought she would be.
Where is she now?
She thinks to herself,
'I can still catch her.'

She looks around herself
And wonders what took her so long.
'Have I been here all along? '
And begs herself,
'Please let go this time.'

One tiny observation, should the word 'now' in the last line in this stanza be 'nor'? She looks inside herself As he tells her, 'I will never control you, ' And thinks to herself, 'Now I will let you.'

I love this, it's very clever but also deep. I like how you give over yourself finally to this person who you know will take great care of you. It's lovely. HG: -) xx

I hesitated to comment on your work, because, after all, I am your mom, and it may appear I am partial to you...ah, what the heck, I AM! You are so dear to me, but this poem makes me think that you may be all grown up now, Yes? ? ? It is beautiful, a soul-serching piece, and I love it...and you. Scarlett

When did you read my mind? - Mine, and that of so many others, for sure. Otherwise put; this is something so many will relate to, subject-wise. In respect of the flow and the penning generally, it is absolutely superb. I want more. t x
